Safari Day 2 - Lions

Tuesday, Oct 12  South Africa

We headed across Crocodile bridge for our 2nd day of Safari... it's interesting to know they have been working on this bridge for 3 years!  They never get it completed before the rains come and it washes out... and to think, their rains are coming!  I hope they make it this time.

We entered the park and began our Safari in hopes to see the lions, but, this time it was self-drive...lucky for us, we again had an overcast day of weather reaching a high of only 71F, nice for driving with the windows down.  And, this was the day after it was 113F.  Our Guide advised us that the animals would be out on overcast days and we would see more... we did!  We had a great day of viewing and did in-fact see lions - twice!!  The first was a pride just laying around, kinda hidden in and around the scrub brush.  It was very hard to get a clear picture of any of them, and they weren't moving much, but I managed to find a couple spots that you could actually see them.

We got really excited as a couple of them began to get up and move, I'm thinking we would get a better pic...

then we saw a Rhino stroll right through the middle of the pride...

He got their attention, but moved on and they just settled back in for their nap.

The second time we spotted a lion, he was laying out on a sandbar all by himself.  He was much larger, older, and darker in color.  No excitement from him and we could never see his face.  When he stretched out and just laid flat, we knew he was in for a long nap, so we took our pic and moved on.
