After a long flight we arrived safely in Johannesburg, got through customs, rented a car and headed out on the freeway in the dark, in the rain, in construction, on the wrong side of the road, and having no idea which direction we were actually going as we left the Avis Rental Car Lot. We had lots of fun looking for windshield wipers and buttons on the car as needed. Dennis was driving and I had map in hand to navigate so we were on our way to Giraffes Place Guest House! We only missed one turn, but was back on track quickly.
Our hosts Marlene and Jaco, were waiting for us and dinner was ready. We had a nice time visiting before and during dinner. They have two lovely children. Marlene and Jaco, I hope one day you can travel to the U.S. to see us.

Dinner was waiting when we arrived and it was delicious! We visited with the owners, Marlene and Jaco, and enjoyed their company.
... we had leg of lamb with rice and gravy, a spinach dish, along with a sweet potato recipe. Milk tart was dessert which was also very tasty it had a custard-like texture in a pie crust.

We found that the umpteen adapters we brought to convert our U.S. plugs to South African voltage - of course, none would work... we wondered when it said Africa rather than South Africa. We found converter plugs today though.
We managed to get settled in for bed at midnight, which is 5:00 pm our time at home. While we weren't sleepy tired, we were tired and it felt good to lay flat as opposed to sitting in an airplane seat. Dennis didn't sleep much on the airplane so he was able to go to sleep pretty easy, but I couldn't go to sleep, so I continued reading my new book "Waking the Wilderness" that was written by a friend, Clay King, who now lives in a cabin in the Seattle Washington area. This is his first book to write. Some of you may know him, he is the son of Jim and Jimmie King. I worked with Jim at Central Tech... that is why I mentioned what I'm reading! (Note: I later finished and it was good!)
